Restaurant Review: Lotus of Siam (Las Vegas)

In 2000 Gourmet Magazine declared the Lotus of Siam the "Single Best Thai Restaurant in North America" - now that is quite the declaration, so of course on our last day in Las Vegas we made the trip off the strip to see what all the fuss was about. Situated in a strip mall off of Sahara Boulevard, our cab driver stated this restaurant is really popular. When we were planning our Las Vegas trip, we thought we may not be able to squeeze this Northern Thai restaurant in, but after learning they have a weekday only lunch buffet, we decided to save the best for last. Upon arriving as lunch started we perused the buffet and saw it was a lot of fried items, and fried foods is a no-no on our restricted list of foods, so we decided to order from their extensive menu.

Menu

We started with Singha Beers of course, which became invaluable in quenching the scorching spice from the food.

We definitely wanted to try their Tom Yum Kai - sour spicy chicken soup. Lotus of Siam ranks their spiciness on a scale of 1-10, so we opted for a 7 across the board. 7 was definitely a bit too spicy and went straight to all our heads.

We love seafood salads and Thailand's version of ceviche with tons of herbs and greens always ranks high on our list of favorites so we placed an order for their squid salad and avoided all chilis on the plate.

We spotted a Jackfruit curry on the menu and was curious since we've seen Jackfruit salads, but haven't seen it in a curry, which we anticipated would be tart and sweet like curries or soups with pineapple. That was not the case, but we enjoyed the coconut milk-less curry all the same.

Pad Thai Noodles with fried tofu - mmmm...one of the best we've had, we could have eaten two plates of this addictive noodle dish that was done perfectly.

Wanting to make sure we ordered the perfect lunch, we solicited the help of our waiter, who stated his favorite dish was the Sua Rong Hai - Charbroiled beef with a spicy tamarind sauce. This dish was ridiculously good, the beef tender and the tamarind gravy like sauce was tart, earthy and spicy!

Lotus of Siam was a total winner, we thoroughly enjoyed our final meal in Las Vegas and felt we had sufficiently gotten off the beat path to enjoy what Sin City had to offer, who knew there was amazing Thai food in the glitzy desert?
